Documenting Substrate Condition Before Sealing
Substrate readiness should be documented before a sealing product is applied. A surface that looks dry and clean may still need assessment against the selected adhesive or tape's preparation requirements.

Selection considerations
Obtain the relevant substrate and condition requirements from the product instructions. Identify the actual material, previous coatings, repairs and any contamination. Where a measurement is required, agree the method and acceptance criteria with the responsible team rather than selecting a threshold from an unrelated product.
Record the work area, assessment date, instrument or method where applicable, and the observed results. Link the record to surface preparation and any remedial work. If the area is exposed to weather or other trades after assessment, check whether a new release is needed before application.
Keep the accepted readiness record with the batch and installation information. Do not translate a favourable moisture observation into proof of bond performance; material compatibility and correct application remain separate checks. Document exceptions before work is covered.
Before you specify or order
- Obtain product-specific readiness requirements
- Identify coatings and repairs
- Record the assessment method
- Recheck changed surface conditions

Common question
Can visual dryness establish adhesive readiness?
Not where the selected instructions require additional checks. Follow the relevant substrate assessment and preparation procedure.
