What to include in an expansion joint enquiry
An expansion joint enquiry should state gap, movement, traffic, build-up and location. These fields let suppliers compare technically relevant systems instead of proposing products that merely look similar.

Selection considerations
Give each run a location reference and length. Include the movement requirements with units, the nominal opening and any surveyed variation. State floor-to-floor or floor-to-wall geometry and identify external exposure, waterproofing and fire-resistance requirements.
Attach sections showing finished levels, support edges and available depth. Include corners, intersections and terminations in the quantity schedule. Ask suppliers to list assumptions and provide the proposed BULDX code for each run. Comparing this information line by line is more useful than comparing only the price per metre of the straight profile.
Before you specify or order
- Include section drawings
- List transition quantities
- Require explicit technical assumptions

Common question
What information should come before product selection?
The engineer's gap and movement requirements, followed by the traffic and installation constraints.
